Consumer Reports Toyota - How Vehicles Age
Toyota and Honda vehicles have
significantly fewer problems than do cars from other manufacturers overall.
Moreever, seven year old vehicles from Toyota and Honda have roughly the same
number of problems as three year old vehicles from most other automakers. Using
data from our Annual Car Reliability Survey, we compared how the vehicles from
eight major manufacturers fared over time. For each manufacturer, we averaged
the problems for all of the one year old models for which we had sufficient
data, then we did the same for two year old vehicles, and so on. Toyota, despite
a few recent reliability setbacks, has the fewest overall problems with its
vehicles as they pass the five year mark. Younger Hyundais fairly reliable, but
the average Hyundai of five years and older is among the least reliable. That
doesn't mean that newer vehicles will suffer the same fate down the road. In the
past few years, the Korean manufacturer has greatly improved the quality of its
cars.
From previous surveys, we noted that Ford consistently showed fewer problems
than the other domestic automakers for three year old and older vehicles. But
our latest survey shows that Ford vehicles are now more reliable across all ages
than their Detroit rivals.
Volkswagon (including its Audi subsidiary) stands out after seven years as the
manufacturer with the most problems. The typical eight year old Volkswagon has
nearly three times the number of problems as the typical eight year old Toyota
does.
Here's how vehicles from major makers fare over time.

all subsidiary brands. For example Hyundai incorporates Kia

Hybrid Technology
The most advanced hybrid powertrain
The HYBRID SYNERGY DRIVE power
unit integrates the strong elements of an electric motor and a
gas/petrol engine. It is not merely a package that has an electric motor
and a gas/petrol engine on board. Toyota applied cutting edge
technologies based on our latest research to integrate the dual power
sources in the most ideal way.
There are other models called "hybrid vehicles" in existence, but Toyota
is fully confident that our HYBRID SYNERGY DRIVE is the most advanced
hybrid powertrain in the world. In fact, HYBRID SYNERGY DRIVE is one of
the very few systems in the world in 2005 that fully complies with the
UN's definition of a "hybrid vehicle".
